The sun is coming out

I’ve started working more intensively on another writing project. I’ve posted some of the works from it here before, the fantasy related ones. There isn’t a name for it quite yet, at least on the entire project itself. But, I do know that the fantasy world is “The Gemlands”. The other part of it, I haven’t quite figured out. Something formal and almost business and/or political like. You know, something fun.

I was able to get in a session of pickleball the other day. I don’t have the same nuance that I was developing a few months ago, but I think I’ve kept the overall flow of it. Still had fun, too. Before I sprained my ankle back in December, I wanted to play in tournaments and stuff. I’d play four or five times a week, driving out to lots of different places to play with lots of different types of players, always hoping to make major improvements to my game. But, after taking some time away from it, I think that I’m changing my mindset toward the game to recreational activity, rather than focusing on training and competition. The problem that I run into with this mindset is that a lot of the people I met during the last year of pickleball are more into the competitive side of the game now. But, I suppose that it wouldn’t be bad to meet more people. It’s just thinking of the many possibilities of how it could go terribly wrong that make me feel weird.

After hearing my friends discuss the books that they’re reading, I became curious about the genre of books that I tend to read. They like a lot of fantasy and romance and fantasy romance. I read one that they unanimously agreed was bad and I’m in the process of reading one they all enjoy. And though I agree with their assessments, I don’t feel the same way that they do about the books. So, I’m glad to say that I think I’ve found that the genre that I really enjoy is literary fiction. I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t find that out sooner, largely because I haven’t been much of a reader up until recently, but I’m glad to know what kinds of books to look for and writing to gear myself toward. It’s nice to know why it’s difficult to explain to people the types of stories that I write.

Speaking of which, I’ll be posting a snippet of what I’m working on next week, so look forward to that.

Otherwise, I hope you’re all doing well. Thanks for stopping in again.
